You could also work out something to slow it down by charging a capacitor via induction etc, thereby recovering some of the expended energy. • I also forgot to mention that the circular track is not necessary in my opinion. You could constrain the weights to circular motion via a central axle as I showed in the spur gear example, so long as you don't try and modify the angular velocity via the axles. • You could also set up a cylinder with two pistons attached, one to each weight, the cylinder must be free to move on the vertical axis.
