The test of the new national emergency alert system failed to sound on all phones this afternoon, and some alerts arrived late. • Many people across the country reported that they had not received an alarm at 3pm, when a loud blast lasting for 10 seconds was expected to sound. • Tom Prentki in Bournemouth said: Nothing happened here at Bournemouth. Mine didn't even go off! • Many individuals on the Three mobile network also reported that they had not received the test. • The system is designed to warn the public if there is a danger to life nearby.
