Film maker Gregory Kennedy-Salemi relates the story of how peace activists Thich Nhat Hanh, Alfred Hassler, Sister Chan Khong and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr used principles of non-violent action to work for peace during the Vietnam War in the 1960s. • Gregory spoke after a Plum Village (http://plumvillage.org/) preview screening of THE 5 POWERS, a documentary using archive footage of the protagonists inter-mixed with interviews and a simple comic book depiction of their unique approach to peace-making. • He also addresses the question of self-immolation by Buddhist monastics, the act of people burning themselves to death as a means of highlighting the suffering caused by war. Several contemporaries of Thich Nhat Hanh and Sister Chan Khong chose this path of self sacrifice for the good of others. THE 5 POWERS puts the actions into their historical and ethical contexts. • For details of the film's release schedule go to: http://www.peaceisthewayfilms.com
