Dog Grooming, Stripping and Bathing a Spinone Italiano How To. In this video, I will show you how to groom a dog with a harsh or hard coat that needs to be stripped like that of a Spinone Italiano. • I will be grooming an 11-month-old Spinone Italiano. We will go over every part of the grooming process, including how to clean the ears, bathe the dog, and strip the dog's coat. I will also include a list of needed tools and supplies that will make the job much easier. • When you give a dog a bath I like to start off by cleaning the dog's ears. This should be done first as it can be a messy job. Tip: when cleaning a dog's ears you need to massage the cleaning solution into the ear, you should hear a squishy sound. I am a big fan of the Epi-Otic ear cleaner, you can get it from your vet. Epi-Otic is a one-step ear cleaner. It doesn’t require adding a drying solution. Once you have massaged the cleaner in the ear you can you can use some cotton or a paper towel wrapped around your finger and remove any debris from the ear canal. If your dog shakes its head that OK. Remember to do both ears • When I give a dog a bath I like to use a foam cannon to mix the soap with water. You can pick one up from an auto supply store. If you are not using a foam cannon you can pre-mix the soap with water as per the shampoo instructions. Almond Crisp soap is mixed 32 parts water to 1 part soap. When using the foam cannon you don’t have to pre-wet the dog with water you can just put it on the foam setting and apply it straight on the dog. This will save time. When using the cannon you can safely apply the soapy solution to the face. Cover the dog's eyes and use the mist setting. Once the dog has been all soaped up, let it set on the coat for a minute or two then massage it in and rinse. Towel Dry. • tools of the job • Metal Stripping Stones- These are great and they will not cut the hair. Since they will not cut the hair it is really good for a beginner to use. • Stripping Stones- just like the above these are great, a bit cheaper, but they will break if you drop them. • Stripping Knives- Make quick work of the job. Be careful not to cut the hair. Always keep your wrist straight. • Mars King Coat- Great tool to start with. • Combs of different sizes from wide tooth to fine tooth. • Brushes - I like to use a boars hair brush and a wide toothbrush. • Scissors and Thinning Scissors (it is recommended to not use scissors on a Spinone) • When you strip a dog make sure you brush the hair/fur in the right direction: with the grain. Then use Mars King Coat to quickly remove a lot of the dead hair. Always work it the directions of the coat. Next use the stripping stones. Try to keep the skin tight and use the weight of the stripping stone to pull out the dead hairs. When you move to the stripping blade make sure that they are not too sharp again, we don't want to cut the hair. If you're cutting the hair with your stripping blade not only are you damaging the hair. Don’t do it. Remember to keep your wrist straight, your arm should bend at the elbow. The technique is the same as using the stripping stones. Using the stripping stones is an excellent way to practice good form. Once you have that technique down you will be less likely to cut the hair using the stripping knives. When you have your dog looking good, it is best practice to strip your dog little and often to keep it looking it’s best. • If you would like more info on dogs and other pet care related topics check out my web page http://www.203pet.com. • Please subscribe to my youtube Chanel / iamhoffer • This video was produced by One Spin Media: https://www.facebook.com/onespinmedia... • Here is a list of the supplies that I used and links to where you can get them. • Epi-Otic Ear Cleanser: https://amzn.to/2MD0rOv • Mars Coat King: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00... • Mars Double Wide Coat King: https://amzn.to/2JZOSyP • Bass Boar hair Palm Style Pet Brush: https://amzn.to/2LYAN5o • Pet Hair Thinning Shears: https://amzn.to/2MvMsKd • Dog Grooming Table: https://amzn.to/2JYhwAG • Booster Bath XL: https://amzn.to/2MBSadj • Booster Bath large: https://amzn.to/2JOF9j5 • Almond Crisp Pet Shampoo: https://amzn.to/2M1x1IB • Stripping Knife: http://greyhoundcomb.com/cart/index.p... • Metal Stripping Stones: http://greyhoundcomb.com/cart/index.p...
