During many Catholic liturgies you will see and smell incense filling the sacred space of the church. Why do Christians use incense to pray? Why is incense used during the Catholic mass? Where does this practice originate in the Bible? • ♨️💨 What is Incense? • Incense is a sweet smelling smoke used during Catholic liturgies. • ♨️💨 Incense in the Bible • In Exodus chapter 30 the Old Testament God commands Moses to burn fragrant incense on the altar. The incense will burn in the tent where God will be present. The makers of the incense are told to purify themselves as holy as well. • In the Book of Revelation (Rev 5:8, 8:3) incense is used to carry the prayers of the saints with the help of the angels up to God. • ♨️💨 Incense at Church during Mass • So why do we use incense at Mass? Think of it this way: • 1. The smoke is a sign of our prayers being lifted up to God. • 2. The sweet smell reminds us that we are in a holy and purified place. • 3. The smoke obscures our vision adding an element of mystery and an ambiance of heaven to the gathering. • • SUBSCRIBE for more Catholic videos: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c... • CONNECT WITH THE RELIGION TEACHER: • -- Facebook: / thereligionteacher • -- Pinterest: / religionteacher • CONNECT WITH JARED: • -- Instagram: / jareddees • -- Twitter: / jareddees • -- LinkedIn: / jareddees • ARE YOU A RELIGIOUS EDUCATOR?
