You will have to decide for yourself. • We get king betta’s here in Malaysia, they are huge in comparison to the regular Guys. There are 2 left in our lfs that we keep looking at! That’s why I am staying away from there. • How to Use an Aquarium Heater • • How to: Aquarium Heater Setup Use • hello everyone, we’re new to betta fish keeping and something happened to one of our fish! My boyfriend and I started off with 5 female bettas, and everything was fine for the first few days. we noticed that the one had a missing eye and a limp fin, so we didn’t have much hope for her but she seemed to be interacting with the rest of them fine. about 3 days in, we noticed that the other fish kept kind of biting at her so we turned the lights off and made sure that the temperature in the tank was fine. the next day, we realized that she disappeared completely. we honestly just thought she was hiding so we gave it some time but we are now 4 days in and we can not find her at all. We checked the filter, removed all of the decorations, and have yet to find her even around the tank, she had completely disappeared. Could anyone give us a logical explanation as to what might have happened to her? • also how big is your tank and is it heavily planted? like SUPER heavily? betta sororities are usually a bad idea especially if you have other fish. the tank is 20 gallons, and there’s a decent amount of decor in there for multiple hiding spots. the only other fish we have in there are the other bettas. • id guess she was attacked, killed then eaten by the other fish. sometimes fish will get themselves wedged under gravel to try and escape, did you move gravel around too? We had a cory go missing and he was inside a leg of an octopus decoration. Do you have any hollow decorations she might have swam into and gotten stuck? • The cory was deep into one of the legs. We had to break it down to find him. She also could've been eaten or jumped, but I assume you looked around the tank. Also all of the other fish seem to be doing well and thriving, so we’re honestly just confused as to why this only happened to one. • Im going to say she was eaten. I personally recommend 30 gallons minimum for sororities, and for the keepers to be more experienced. there are a few other groups around the betta hobby here on fb that are very helpful as well, joining multiple is always helpful! • Bettas kill eachother all the time, its not uncommon unfortunately since the domestic type we see were originally bred and kept to fight to the death, hence the nick name fighting fish. if she did wind up being eaten, would there be a carcass of some type or would it completely disappear. • I have a feeling she mightve jumped since there was nothing left, plus the bullying..maybe she jumped out when they were targeting her one night? Its hard to say honestly. Why would you put all the female bettas in the Same tank anyways? And she probably got eaten by the other girls sry about your loss. • To update what he said we have fully checked around the tank looking for her in case she jumped out and no sign of her. there was no sign of the fish eating her either as the first time we noticed her missing there was no sign of a body floating or any parts we have fully check the tank under gravel and under each decoration and even in the filter we have been keeping a watchful eye on them as well as consulting a fellow betta keeper who also keeps a sorority whenever we see a sign of something uneasy. • Could have been eaten. They wouldn't want to keep a sick fish around for fear of predators or its possible if she died in 4 days the tank bacteria took care of her. Did you find any white fuzzy areas on or under anything. • Why put a betta with one eye and limp fin on a sorority? You need healthy bettas to start off if you will do a semi aggressive tank. A betta with defects is not a suitable fish in that setting. I have a sorority but never had any prob. This question has been answered so I'm closing comments here to prevent repetition. • As advised, betta sororities are not advisable for new or inexperienced keepers. For anyone thinking of starting one, please ensure you have researched as much as possible in advance to have the correct set up in place, and that you have spare tanks at hand should you need to seperate your girls.
