For this week I used the Library of Congress and Fort Hays, KS Archives, which allowed me to acquire an abundance of primary source material from the period. I also used Jeremy Agnew's books, 'The Old West in Fact Film: History Versus Hollywood', and 'Life of a Soldier on the Western Frontier,' and Frank N. Schubert's 'Black Valor: Buffalo Soldiers and the Medal of Honor, 1870-1898.' Special thanks to Dr. Gregory Urwin, Professor of Military History at Temple University, for answering copious questions about both headwear and footwear of soldiers during this period. Also, thank you to Ken Woody, chief of interpretation at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument for answering additional footwear questions. • About Man vs History: Man vs History is a YouTube channel that endeavors to combine both education and entertainment, specifically related to history.
