Arcola is very comfortable hosting elite events that challenge even the best golfers. Just take the 2022 U.S. Amateur, for example, where it teamed up with its neighbor, Ridgewood Country Club, to host stroke-play qualifying. Back in the 1950s, Robert Trent Jones revamped the course after the State took part of the property for the Garden State Parkway, which meant saying goodbye to four existing holes. Paul Dotti, who's been the Director of Grounds since 2009, has spearheaded some major projects to boost Arcola's reputation in the State. They've done everything from serious drainage work to removing trees, not to mention rebuilding bunkers and reshaping fairways. And let me tell you, Dotti and his team maintain some of the best playing conditions in the tri-state area. That's saying a lot, considering the competition, but you can expect firm-and-fast conditions and putting surfaces that roll above 14 on the Stimpmeter any day you play. • Don't forget, this championship venue also hosts the annual Arcola Cup, bringing together some of the best amateur players in the area.
