The Abhisarika Nayika is the one who is determined to meet the Nayaka, come what may. She is daring and does not hesitate to undertake a hazardous journey to unite with her Nayaka, whether it is day or night. As she goes to meet her Nayaka in secrecy, she hides her face in order not to disclose her identity. Behind this veil, the Abhisarika is found to be dressed and ornamented elaborately and dazzles the Nayaka. • The Abhisarika Nayika has been depicted by Varsha Abhichandani through the Telugu Padam ‘Choodare’ composed by Kshettrya in Sahana Raagam and Mishrachaapu Taalam. • The character being portrayed here is a middle-aged woman sitting with her neighbors, going about her daily jobs. When she calls the Abhisarika Nayika to join them, she ignores her invitations. This sets forth a gossip among the women about how the Nayika is going boldly to meet her secret lover. One woman comments about the love-struck look on her face and her swaying gait, another point out how her dress is askew and one remarks about how her boldness is going to be a disgrace to her respectable in-laws.
