Well-remembered for its many charted hits during the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, this iteration of Bell Records (other unrelated “Bell” record companies had existed as early as the 1920s) came into being in 1954 as a budget label specializing in cover versions of current popular song hits and featuring some familiar veteran performers such as Helen Forrest, Larry Clinton, Sy Oliver, and The Dorsey Brothers. Uniquely, you’ll find some Bell singles of that period in not only in the usual formats of 10-inch 78s and 7-inch 45s, but also as 7-inch 78s with a small center hole and playable with the microgroove stylus. • For Nat King Cole’s leading version of “Answer Me My Love,” listen here: • 1954 HITS ARCHIVE: Answer Me My Love ... • CD audio, original issue on Bell 1035 - Answer Me My Love (Sigman-Rauch) by Helen Forrest, orchestra conducted by Morty Palitz . • ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • The three* MusicProf channels are home to The HITS ARCHIVES, YouTube’s most comprehensive collection of U.S. ‘popular music’ recordings from 1925 thru 1975.
