THE PONS • Inferior Pons • It is formed of: • 1- Basis pontis. • 2- Tegmentum. • 1- Basis pontis: • • It is the ventral part of the pons. • • It contains: • 1- Transverse pontine fibers. • 2- Nuclei pontis. • 3- Bundles of pyramidal tract fibers. • 4- Middle cerebellar peduncle. • 2- Tegmentum • It is dorsal to the basis pontis. It contains the deep origin of abducent nerve, facial nerve and cochleo-vestibular nerve. • Middle cerebellar peduncles • It contains: • 1- Cortico Ponto-cerebellar fibers: • These fibers come from the frontal, temporal, parietal and occipital lobes of the cerebral cortex. They end in the nuclei pontis. Axons from the latter • THE SUPERIOR LEVEL OF PONS • At this level the cavity of 4th ventricle is very narrow. • The basis pontis is formed of the four usual components of the lower levels. • The tegmentum contains the following four lemnisci . • from medial to lateral: • 1-The medial lemniscus. • 2-The trigeminal lemniscus. • 3-The spinal lemniscus. • 4-The lateral lemniscus. • The superior cerebellar peduncle is present medial to the lateral lemniscus. • The mesencephalic nucleus of trigeminal nerve lies between the 4th ventricle and the superior cerebellar peduncle. • In the mid line are present two structures: • 1-The medial longitudinal bundle. • 2-The medial tecto-spinal tract. • • • for contact • [email protected] • Telegram channel • https://t.me/dr_shereenhamed • Telegram chat group • https://t.me/joinchat/QU7iQhkPBrdXh18.... • faculty of medicine • Mansoura university
