The bomb is only necessary if you want to unlock the chest at the end, which is buggy. Carrying the bomb is alot harder because if you even you get one hit from the griffons, the bomb will explode. I wasn't able to get bomb to the chest after about 5-6 hrs of running this puzzle but I got close!
