Sublimation is the process of converting a solid into a gas without going through the liquid phase. Dry Ice as it names indicates, there is no melting, sublimes, therefore never goes through the liquid phase. No liquid mess, from solid goes to gas. This is an endothermic reaction, it takes heat in to change to a gas. Deposition is the opposite, transition from gas to solid.
