As a long-haul truck driver, Daisy Delaney covers 15,000 miles a month as she travels across the country. And to stave off the pervasive loneliness, she broadcasts her experiences once a week on Facebook Live. “The CB radio is quiet, as you can tell it’s turned all the way up right now and nobody’s said a single word on it,” Delaney explains in the video above. • Once ubiquitous amongst truckers, the CB radio is now only used for emergency situations, which is why truckers like Delaney have migrated to social media. “As far as communication, it’s really just replaced by the phone,” Delaney says. • Delaney is a member of Truckers Wall of Shame, a Facebook group with over 70,000 members that started as a way to mock bad drivers on the road, but has since evolved into a community of likeminded workers who ask each other what it’s like to work the night shift hauling for Fedex, or wonder whether anyone else has recurring nightmares of their truck crashing. • Thousands of people sign on to Facebook to watch Delaney sing along with the radio, and chat about traffic, weather, and hauls. Livestreaming on Facebook, in particular, has been a hit among lonely truckers who strike up online groups to commune, talk shop, and complain about life on the road. • While roughly six percent of truckers are female, Delaney is a crowd favorite, often fielding marriage proposals and compliments for her friendly demeanor, good looks, and singing voice. But with a husband back in Montana, she isn't looking for romance; just a way to pass the time and stay connected to fellow drivers during those long, solitary stretches on the road. • Subscribe! http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c... • See more on our website: http://www.vocativ.com • Follow us on Twitter:   / vocativ   • Like us on Facebook:   / vocativ
