For a while, I actually confused this with some of the other Challenges with Sheldon’s name in it, namely “Sheldon’s Dress-Up Showdown” and “The Sheldon Sampler Challenge.” But I guess Sheldon is an active participant in Challenge design, and this is his most recent one. I also wasn’t sure if this Challenge had already taken place prior and I just confused it with one of the other Sheldon Challenges, but upon looking it up, this WAS the first time this specific Challenge was held. So I got lucky there that I didn’t miss any of them. • This Challenge began immediately after the Bread vs. Rice vs. Pasta Splatfest. In Pacific Daylight Time, that would be:: • August 11st, 2024: 7 PM to 9 PM, 11 PM to August 12nd, 2024 at 1 AM • August 12nd, 2024: 3 AM to 5 AM, 7 AM to 9 AM, 11 AM to 1 PM, 3 PM to 5 PM • Like with “The Sheldon Sampler Challenge,” the weapons you’ll receive in this one are random (and since every weapon has been released, barring some special set akin to Sheldon’s Picks or the Toni Kensa Collection, there are no limits to which weapons you can get). Unlike with “Sheldon’s Dress-Up Showdown,” the clothes you wear are not the amiibo sets but whatever you bring into the match. • The twist, though, is that they will all have 3 sub-ability slots, regardless of how many they had natively. You are also shown a roulette at the start of each match in the center of the screen, found nowhere else in this game, and every main ability and sub-ability slot will be filled with whatever ability type the roulette lands on. That is, you’ll be playing with 3 main abilities and 9 sub-abilities of a partcular ability type (such as Ink Recovery Up, Special Saver, Quick Super Jump, Intensify Action, etc.), and since they’re random, you won’t necessarily get something that matches what you need. You could, for instance, get an E-liter 4K and roll Quick Super Jump, or the Splattershot Jr. and get Ink Saver (Main). • The mode is Splat Zones, and the available stages are Hagglefish Market and Barnacle Dime. • 00:31 - Match #1 • Barnacle Dime • Splat Zones (Sheldon’s Gear-Ability Shuffle) • Bloblobber • Color Scheme: Candy Pumpkins • Song: “Splattack!” by C-Side • Ability: Sub Resistance Up • I tried using the Bloblobber during the “Supreme Sloshers” Challenge, and I had problems making it work the way I could with the previous Splatoon games. Maybe I was just in a tougher crowd than usual though, because it felt like I got stuff done in this one. It was pretty weird to see competing INk Storms go across the Splat Zone though, tunring it into a No Man’s Land. • 05:17 - Match #2 • Hagglefish Market • Splat Zones (Sheldon’s Gear-Ability Shuffle) • Splattershot Nova • Color Scheme: Candy Pumpkins • Song: “Ripstop Go” by H2Whoa • Ability: Quick Respawn • Ordinarily, the Splattershot Nova is a support weapon, commonly used in Anarchy to assist other players and help them score splats by marking them with the Point Sensor and doing partial damage to them. It felt odd to me to be the one going over there myself and doing the KOing, though every now and then, my teammates DID follow up on people I’ve marked. • 08:05 - Match #3 • Barnacle Dime • Splat Zones (Sheldon’s Gear-Ability Shuffle) • Rapid Blaster Pro Deco • Color Scheme: Action Movie Poster • Song: “Amalgamania” by SashiMori • Ability: Sub Power Up • I am terrible with the Rapid Blaster Pro, and I am even worse with Angle Shooters. I don’t know how people do it, scoring splat after splat using the Angle Shooters. You need a level of accurate aim that I don’t have. • 12:43 - Match #4 • Hagglefish Market • Splat Zones (Sheldon’s Gear-Ability Shuffle) • Custom Explosher • Color Scheme: Action Movie Poster • Song: “Clickbait” by C-Side • Ability: Quick Respawn • I used the Explosher in a Splatfest in Splatoon 2, and I thought I came out of that one pretty decent at it by then. But now? I can barely make use of it. not sure what happened or what I’m doing differently than I did then. However, I did realize that it’s fantastic at inflicting misery on people who perch in high spots. That’s what the Custom Explosher user on the other team did, and, as it seems, I was a far more aggressive user of this weapon than they were. • 14:56 - Match #5 • Barnacle Dime • Splat Zones (Sheldon’s Gear-Ability Shuffle) • Custom Heavy Splatling • Color Scheme: • Song: “Rockagily Blues” by Yoko the Gold Bazookas • Ability: Swim Speed Up • Ah, a Splatling! This is my best weapon class. And Swim Speed Up, which I think goes well with all weapons. The other side had a tough roll, with the Bamboozler Mk I and the Goo Tuber, but I guess my inability to get anything done with the Kraken Royale made up the difference. How do other people do it? I might as well not have a special at all.
