Conducted by Emmanuel Krivine, the Orchestre National de France performs the overture to Moussorgsky's La Khovantchina. Excerpt of the concert recorded on 18 October 2018 at the Radio France Auditorium, Paris. • Like many of Mussorgsky's scores, that of La Khovantchina underwent a variety of interventions (some less welcome than others) at the hand Rimsky-Korsakov. Wishing to create a neater score than the one his friend had left behind (unlike Boris Godunov, for which Mussorgsky signed two successive versions), Rimsky-Korsakov erased many daring idea but made the final work relatively presentable. Shostakovich, with more discretion and judgement, also left his version of the work. • Nicknamed Morning over the Moskova , the prelude from La Khovantchina does not fully hint at the passionate choruses and fiery monologues that form the backbone of the opera. It is instead in the form of a crescendo Andante tranquillo, with violins and joyful woodwinds, followed by a distant and worrisome chime. A motif from the lower strings swells to epic proportions, following which the atmosphere of the opening returns and the music ends peacefully with the flute and the clarinet. • More concerts on : https://www.francemusique.com/concerts • Click here to suscribe to our YouTube Channel : http://bit.ly/2oeEr3e • Follow us on... • ► Facebook - https://bit.ly/2G380fK • ► Twitter - http://bit.ly/2okZSfP • ► Instagram - http://bit.ly/2nDA547
