In this video, I’ll be taking you on a Jamaican Naseberry harvest. I will also be sharing my naseberry smoothie recipe, showing you how to eat a naseberry also sharing the benefits of naseberry other naseberry facts. • Overview • The Sapodilla tree is known by many different names, depending on the region it is found. It’s native to Southern Mexico, Central America the Caribbean, but it can be found in other tropical subtropical countries. It’s a long lived, slow growing tree, that is also very hardy can even withstand hurricanes. • In Jamaica, many of the trees wildly organically can oftentimes be found growing along the roadside, in green spaces or in person’s backyards. The tree produces a fruit known as naseberry fruit, but Jamaicans prefer to call it “neezeberry”. The skin of the naseberry is rough it has a sandpaper like texture. The flesh of the naseberry varies from dark brown to reddish brown the seeds are flat black with a hook at one end. It’s super sweet tastes like malt caramel, dripped in brown sugar. • ►Naseberry Picking Storage • Naseberries are seasonal in Jamaica they are mostly organic. They typically bear from March through to May, but the season can vary from parish to parish or even from community to community, within a parish. • It usually takes 5 to 7 years for the sapodilla tree to bear fruit, from the time of germination. Sapodillas can either be picked by hand or by using a stick with an attachment. • Sapodillas are usually picked when fit (when it is almost ready to be eaten). At this stage of maturity, they are hard when touched have to be stored at room temperature to be softened. Jamaicans tend to either leave them in a box or another container inside their homes, wrapped up with newspaper or covered with dried banana or plantain leaves to hasten the process of softening the fruit. • ►Naseberry Nutrition Facts • Naseberries are high in dietary fiber calories. They also contain simple sugars (sucrose fructose). They are also high in vit A vit C contain vit E some of the B vitamins. It has antibacterial properties anti-parasitic properties • 13. It contains sedative properties • ►Naseberry Scratch Test other signs of Maturity • 1. Scratch the surface of the sapodilla fruit. If the underneath is green, it’s not ready for picking. • 2. When the sapodilla fruit is matured the little tip at the end will fall off. • 3. The skin texture of the sapodilla gets smoother with maturity. • 4. Bend the stem of the tree. If the fruit detaches from the stem, it’s ready to be picked. • ►How to eat a Naseberry • 1.Cut the fruit into half scoop out pulp with a spoon. Eat the pulp throw away the seeds. • 2. Peel the skin, bite into the pulp then throw away the seeds. • 3. Eat the pulp along with the skin. • 4. Open the fruit using bare hands eat the pulp. • ►How to make a Naseberry Banana Smoothie • Serving size:1 • Ingredients • 1 cup soy milk • 4 medium naseberries • 2 small bananas • A dash of vanilla • A dash of cinnamon • A dash of nutmeg • Honey to taste • A few ice cubes • Method • 1. Wash fruits properly. • 2. Add ingredients to blender • 3.
