If it is security at the border or if it is environmental issues to improve the environment, if it is economic development issues, if it is water issues - there's a lot of different issues that are facing us and a lot of challenges that are facing us. • 7. SOUNDBITE: (English) Bill Richardson, Governor of New Mexico: • Obama is all about dialogue and reconciliation and bringing people together. I think he'd be a president like John F. Kennedy, the way he meant, Kennedy meant, to the region, because Obama is talking about hope and bringing people together and opportunity. And you know, his positions, I believe, make enormous sense. One, give priority his first term to comprehensive immigration. Two, to deal with the Cuba issue, have a dialogue with Raul Castro on the Cuban trade embargo, loosen the embargo, but you know, get some democratic reforms in exchange. • 14. Richardson leaving room • • STORYLINE: • • Mexico's President Felipe Calderon met on Thursday with governors from both sides of the US-Mexico border to discuss border security. • • California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, New Mexico governor Bill Richardson, Texas governor Rick Perry and US Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza were all present at the meeting, along with other governors of Mexican border states and members of Calderon's administration. • • Schwarzenegger spoke at a news conference following the meeting and expressed optimism over the results of the meeting. • • What is important here is that both countries are doing everything they can in order to work together and to solve some of the important problems, he said. • • Schwarzenegger spoke warmly of Calderon and said that he admires the Mexican president's accomplishments. • • Calderon in his speech highlighted the need for the United States to make a greater effort in the battle against the trafficking of illegal drugs. • • The US drug market is the largest in the world, which is a problem whose origins lie with American consumers.
