It was our 3rd day of a road trip from Stavanger (Norway) down to Vienna (Austria), when we found this gem place on the border between Germany and Czech Republic. Schwarzenberg, located in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) of Saxony, Germany, has a rich history dating back to its founding in the early 12th century. The town’s castle, Schwarzenberg Castle, was built around 1170 as a defensive fortress. By the 16th century, the town prospered thanks to silver mining, a major industry in the Ore Mountains. In 1945, during the final days of World War II, Schwarzenberg briefly became known as the “Free Republic of Schwarzenberg,” as it was left unoccupied by Allied forces for several weeks. Today, it’s a picturesque town known for its historic architecture and natural beauty.#Germany #Saxony
