Donavan Fanella takes a deep dive into theories of intelligence, and how these theories are tied to perceptions about academic performance. Donavan Fanella is a sophomore who you would be liable to recognize on sight, with the iconic combination of the comb over, Hawaiian shirts, and khakis. Donavan finds enjoyment simply from talking to people, getting to share the most abstract, metaphysical ideas to the most minute, irrelevant factoids, but very rarely in the middle of those two. He is captivated by being a well-rounded learner, which is why he loves school so much but still has trouble deciding on a career. He takes pride in a job well done, which is what earned him student of the year in 8th grade, several Speech and Debate awards, and successes in various writing competitions. At school, outside of being in around 10 different clubs at a given time, his real passion is Speech and Debate, which he sees more as a learning opportunity than a sport. Among his many interests are history, 20th century international politics, watching debates, academic writing, collecting records from the 1920’s and 30’s, and neuroscience. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
