USA 🇺🇸 August 2022 • The first half of our full day around Alaska’s second biggest city, Anchorage started with a trip to the Dredge 8 gold dredging site. 🤠 • We stopped at the Alyeska oil pipeline before learning the gold mining ⛏ history of the region. We saw the dredge itself along with learning some gold panning skills (which we will put to good use back in NZ this summer!). @miranda.ashley14 and I had a bit of a panning competition going, she came out with $8USD worth, myself $21USD 🥇 💪. • We departed on the Discovery 3, a sternwheel river boat along the Chena River 💦. • After watching seaplanes take off and land on the river 🛩 we stopped at a sled dog 🐕 camp to watch them during their summer training. • Finally our last stop, a replica Athabascan native village where we learned about the traditional culture from Athabascans. From catching and smoking salmon 🐟 to domesticating Reindeer 🦌 (Caribou), traditional and modern home designs aswell as the importance of fur for traditional clothing.
