In 1984, Gregory Lee Johnson protested against President Reagan’s policies by burning an American flag in front of the City Hall in Dallas, Texas. Although he went to trial and was convicted, the case wound up with the Supreme Court. • On June 21, 1989, the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in the Texas v.
