Vega de San Mateo is a municipality of the island of Gran Canaria which is located close to the middle of the island surrounded by mountains and nature. • San Mateo is part of half of the Natural Protected area called Reserva Natural de Las Cumbres. For those nature lovers Vega de San Mateo is a must place to visit. • Gran Canaria has may hiking trails all around the island and Vega de San Mateo has many of them. Since it is located in the middle of the mountains it's all about nature, pine forests and trails there. Roque Saucillo is one of the places to visit as well. • As for sights Vega de San Mateo stands out. Being on its way to the highest part of the island it has great sights of the north and eastern parts of the island. You can even see the sea from there even though it's very far away. • In terms of food and gastronomy, Vega de San Mateo is known amongst the locals for its weekend market.
