【あらすじ】 • 舞台は宮崎県北にある延岡市。 • 山の麓にある家に住む紀代は、近所の友人や息子夫婦、介護ヘルパーの支援を受けながら生活していた。そこへ息子から電話が入り、十数年前に大喧嘩をして家を飛びたしたきりの娘・明希が実家に帰ってくると告げられる。紀代は、カレンダーに宮崎県の郷土料理である「レタスまき」と書き残す。 • 【Brief Synopsis】 • Kiyo lives in a house at the foot of a mountain, receiving support from her neighborhood friends, her son and daughter-in-law, and a care helper. Then she receives a phone call from her son, who informs her that her daughter, Akiki, who had left home after a big fight more than ten years ago, is coming back to her parents' house. I left Tokushima when I entered university, but my parents still live there. Nowadays, I only wish I could go back home once a year, and sometimes I don't go back for two or three years at a time. However, when I went back home for the first time in a while recently, I felt my parents' aging. My mother, who was always so energetic, had a knee injury that prevented her from going far, and my father's sternness, which I used to feel in the past, had completely disappeared. For the first time, I realized that I would have to say goodbye to my parents someday. I have not always been able to speak my mind to my parents, and I am not good at expressing my affection. But I am not alone. I suspect that many people cannot honestly tell their parents how sorry or grateful they are. Perhaps it is a sense of family that is peculiar to the Japanese. However, when I felt my parents aging, I felt a strong sense of crisis that they might die without ever connecting with me through heartfelt words.
