My 671 Blower rebuild Part 10 Measuring end clearance

Video #10 shows how I measured the end clearance so I could determine any machine work needed to get the end clearance within spec. The front end clearance is usually no tighter than about .008 for a gasoline engine, and the rear end clearance should be around .014. I have heard that some blower builders run tighter rear clearances than this, but this will be a low boost, street application running gasoline, so I don't need to be as tight as a race blower. • The bearing plates are from Diamond P industries, http://www.diamondp.com an American manufacturer right in the heart of the Midwest, in Muncie Indiana. They make very high quality, affordable blower conversion parts, both cast AND machined in the USA, which is why I went with them for my bearing plates. • The next video will show the machining of the case to both shorten and square up the ends of the case. • ===================================================== • Disclaimer: This video series is not intended to be an exhaustive “How to do it” tutorial on how to rebuild a 6-71 blower for Gasoline use. Rather, it is meant to be a “How I did it” journal of one of many projects that I undertake in my home workshop, using hobbyist equipment and methods. If you attempt to duplicate any of these methods, you do so at your own risk. Therefore, I will not be held liable for any incidental or consequential damages as a result of trying to duplicate these methods. • Sources for clearances and tear down/assembly details referenced the Detroit Diesel assembly manual, with additional details referenced from the SA Design book “A Do-it-yourself guide to: Street Supercharging” by Pat Ganahl, ISBN 0-931472-17-2. If you are not an experienced mechanic/machinist, do not attempt to replicate this work. Take your Blower to a professional Blower builder.
