We use faux succulents for some projects, but they can be very expensive. Then one day on a walk we made a discovery. Pine cones look a lot like succulents! We collected some and painted them and we never looked back! Pine cones come in all kinds of shapes and colors that work great as succulents. And they are free! • Some of our favorite pine cone succulents projects are a Pine Cone Succulents Wreath, a Pine Cone Succulents Vertical Garden, and Upcycled Planters With Pine Cone Succulents. We love looking for flea market finds we can upcycle into planters for pine cone succulents. • How To Make Painted Pine Cone Succulents • Materials • Pine cones (all kinds work!) • Acrylic craft paint • Long-handled rose bypass loppers or a handsaw • Craft paintbrush • Steps • 1. Collect Pine Cones • Go for a walk in your neighborhood and gather pine cones. If you can't find enough pine cones, craft stores sell them by the bag. Look in the floral section. • 2. Cut The Pine Cones • Cut bigger pine cones in half to use as pine cone succulents. You can cut them in half with a hand saw (it's hard though!) By-pass loppers work great. (The kind you might use to prune your roses.) • 3. Paint The Pine Cones • Use acrylic craft paint to paint the pine cones. We like to do a few layers of color. Try a darker color all over and paint highlights on the tips. Look at pictures of real succulents for inspiration. • What do you think? Are you inspired to paint your own pine cone succulents? We’d love to hear what projects you want to do with them. Leave us a comment. We’d love to hear from you! • Happy Crafting, • Jennifer Kitty • Want to see more videos? • Mosaics 101: Mosaic Garden Rocks • • How To Make Mosaic Garden Rocks: Mosa... • Mosaics 101: How To Cut Tiles For Mosaics • • Mosaics 101: How To Cut Tiles For Mos... • Mosaics 101: How To Break Off China Roses for Mosaics • • Mosaics 101: How To Break Off China R... • Melt and Pour Soap Craft: How To Make Sugar Scrub Soaps From Melt and Pour Soap • • Melt and Pour Soap Craft: How To Make... • Easy Ribbon Crafts: How To Make An Easy Ribbon Rose • • Easy Ribbon Crafts: How To Make An Ea... • We also have lots of DIY jewelry making videos: • How To Make Jewelry: How To Make An Easy Resin Ring • • How To Make Jewelry: How To Make An E... • How To Make Jewelry: How To Make A Ribbon Bracelet • • How To Make Jewelry: How To Make A Ri... • How To Make Jewelry: How To Make A Beaded Lariat Necklace • • How To Make A Beaded Lariat Necklace:... • How To Make Jewelry: How To Make A Picture Pendant On A Scrabble Tile • • Make A Scrabble Tile Picture Pendant • How To Make Jewelry: How To Make Crystal Wrapped Earrings • • How To Make Crystal Wrapped Earrings • How To Make Jewelry: How To Make Beaded Drop Earrings • • How To Make Jewelry: How To Make Wire...
