Summery temperatures and over 20,000 visitors set the stage for the 2024 Blood Friday celebrations. • 👉 Check out this playlist of my favorite videos: • Top 10 Videos • 1,779 pilgrims on horseback took part in Europe's largest equestrian procession. • The blood ride itself began on Friday at 7 a.m. with the handover of the relic at the church portal. 96 groups of riders in tailcoats and top hats from all over Upper Swabia and beyond accompanied the Holy Blood Rider on his ten-kilometer, three-hour journey through the city and fields. The numerous music bands marched in the city area and moved out before the procession continued towards Ösch. Over 20,000 people and pilgrims from all over the world lined the paths to receive the blessing of the Holy Blood Relic. • Already on the evening of Ascension Day and a month before the European elections, Bishop Dr. Ivo Muser from Bozen-Brixen called for a greater sense of togetherness on the continent in a remarkably political sermon. Europe needs a soul. “We have to learn to live with each other, not next to each other,” the church guest of honor from South Tyrol warned the believers in the basilica and outside in the city. Christian faith can be what unites us with its hope, which goes beyond the human and the inner world. Muser warned against using the so-called Christian West as a term of demarcation and struggle or simply trying to restore the past. May it be a “ride of peace,” wished the preacher before he joined the candlelight procession to Kreuzberg, surrounded by hundreds of believers. • The city once again invited prominent guests from politics, business, society and church to the town hall on Bloody Friday.
