The average police officer in America receives less than four (4) hours of hands-on defensive tactics training per year, and it’s not enough. We have long hypothesized that regular off-duty jiu-jitsu training (at least 1 hour per week) for law enforcement officers would increase officer safety, lower department liability, and reduce the likelihood of injuries to civilians, but the evidence supporting this hypothesis has been mostly anecdotal, until now! • On April 1, 2019, Marietta Police Department (MPD) instituted an experimental training program that made weekly Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) training mandatory for all new hires during the five months they were in the police academy. The training took place at a carefully vetted civilian owned/operated BJJ academy within the community. The program was so successful that on July 1, 2020, Marietta PD extended the department-sponsored jiu-jitsu training opportunity to all in-service officers in the department. To date, 95 of the 145 officers in the agency have opted in to the program, and the impact of the supplementary training has had on the BJJ-trained officers has exceeded all expectations. • If you're in law enforcement, go to http://www.GracieUniversity.com/Reform to download the data, get in touch with Major King, and learn the step-by-step process for implementation at your agency. • If you're a civilian, share this video with the Police Chief in your city, so they can see the data and make the changes necessary to protect officers and civilians in your community. • If you're a martial arts school owner (BJJ, MMA, or TMA) and you want to be part of this movement by partnering with a local police department, go to http://www.GracieUniversity.com/TRP to verify your territory is still available and to learn about the Gracie University Instructor Certification Program. Most police departments will only partner with one carefully vetted school in their city, and by becoming a Certified Training Center (CTC) you will be authorized to teach our time-tested beginner programs as well as our industry-leading law enforcement jiu-jitsu curriculum, Gracie Survival Tactics (GST), making you the ideal candidate for official partnership with the local police department. • It was a major risk for Marietta PD to test this program in their community. But thanks to their courage, we now have the data that we've been dreaming of for over 20 years. Thank you to Major King and the rest of the leadership at Marietta PD for leading the way, law enforcement in America (and around the world) will forever be changed because of it. • http://www.GracieUniversity.com/Reform
