Twycross Zoo Gorilla Enclosure

A look at the Twycross Zoo Gorilla Enclosure and surround. An older enclosure that hopefully Twycross Zoo said would be upgraded by 2030 in their master plan. We've seen the Chimpanzees get a new big enclosure, the neighbours of the gorillas. I've seen an artist's impression of what the new gorilla enclosure might look like, there is a little stream surrounding a leafy island. It even looks like they might be two outdoor areas. At the moment, the gorillas have an outside with a little waterfall, a climbing frame, a large climbing tree, a hut to shelter them from the weather and a little cave with hay and newspaper to play with. Inside, the visitor area has a large sign, explaining the training for medical purposes. The inside gorilla area has had a refit done a couple of years back with new ropes, netting up top, and tree trunks. You might remember the video on the SloggerVlogger channel when they were all left outside while this refit was done and Oumbi had a go at Lope : • Silverback Gorilla Strikes at Son, Pr... • There is another area through the green doors where the gorillas can go to be away from the visitors. Only accessible by the staff. • Outside there is a picnic area, and the steps up to see the Chimpanzees at their outdoor habitat. From the platform up there you can see into the gorilla area. • Covid-19 June 2020 update: It's very unlikely this is going to happen as planned. So our beloved gorilla family has to wait longer to get a new enclosure. This zoo and many others are struggling very much and even though they are now open again, they had to limit their visitors that much that there is still not enough money coming in to keep them going. Government funding is still a big discussion right now, they promised a grant, but this has so many stipulations that most zoos will never see a penny. Discussions are still ongoing.
