In this lesson, I'll show you the textbook way and another way to do long division. We can divide by 2-digit divisors by using compatible numbers and an estimate to place the first digit of the quotient. Then we repeat the steps: divide, multiply, subtract and compare the difference to the divisor. Remember that division and multiplication are inverse operations. Multiplication can help us to divide. Also, we can check our division by multiplying the quotient by the divisor, then adding the remainder to the product to equal the dividend. The textbook way of doing long division is to start by estimating to place the first digit in the quotient. When we estimate, our first digit may be too high or too low. If this happens, we'll need to adjust our first digit. We're going to learn how to do this in video 2.8. But in this lesson, I explain very quickly how to adjust our first digit. We show another way to do long division by seeing if the divisor will into the dividend, one digit at a time. We solve four long division problems and check them with multiplication and addition. • 5th Grade Math 2.3, Model Division of 2-digit Divisors with Base 10 Blocks •    • 5th Grade Math 2.3, Model Division of...   • 5th Grade Math 2.4, Partial Quotients to Divide by 2-digit Divisors •    • 5th Grade Math 2.4, Partial Quotients...   • 5th Grade Math 2.5, Estimate with 2-digit Divisors Using Compatible Numbers •    • 5th Grade Math 2.5, Estimate with 2-d...
