Instead, Tommy's uncompromising sergeant destroys the encampment and massacres the tribe, save for a young woman who was presumed dead. Now, Tommy, utterly appalled, finds himself cut off from the rest of his unit, hoping that the raven-haired survivor will show him the way back to Fort Cobb. Under those circumstances, as avenging Indian warriors and ruthless slave-traders are hot on their trail, Tommy must overcome the language barrier, and above all, never give up to stay alive.
