FACE TO FACE WITH CHRIST, MY SAVIOR written in 1898 • The Story • It didn’t seem possible that Carrie Breck (1855-1934), the author of this hymn, could be a hymn-writer. She couldn’t carry a tune, and she had no natural sense of pitch at all. But, she did love to write poetry. She said, “I penciled verses under all conditions: over a mending basket, with a baby on my arm, and sometimes even when sweeping or washing dishes.” During her life, Carrie wrote more than 2,000 poems. One of them was this hymn, “Face to face with Christ, My Savior”. • When she finished this poem, she sent it to Grant Tullar, a friend who lived in Rutherford, New Jersey. Tullar had just written a tune for another song, but he wasn’t happy with how it went together. Then the mail came, and with it was Carrie’s poem. Amazingly, her poem fit perfectly with the tune Tullar had just composed the night before. Nothing had to be changed. • God had brought together writer and musician… words and music… to become a song that was destined for many a hymnbook; and to bring many a blessing. • cc https://thescottspot.wordpress.com/20...
