Sundakkai Chutney Without Coconut

Sundakkai Chutney (without coconut) is a flavourful, traditional side-dish prepared using fresh Turkey Berries, green chillies and a mix of spices. This dish is a perfect combination with cooked rice, and also tastes great with idli or dosa. • Approx. preparation and cooking time: 30 mins • Serves 3-4 persons • List of ingredients: • 1. Sundakkai (Turkey Berries) - 1 large bowl • 2. Green chillies - 4 • 3. Jaggery - 1 small ball (size of a lemon) • 4. Urad dal - 1 teaspoon • 5. Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon • 6. Tamarind juice - 1/4th cup • 7. Curry leaves - 1 sprig • 8. Red chill pieces - 3 • 9. Salt - 1 teaspoon • 10. Oil - 3 tablespoons • Method of preparation: • 1. To start with, separate sundakkai from its stalk and crush gently to remove all seeds. Then, wash thoroughly atleast twice or thrice, separate the peels and transfer them into a small bowl. • 2. Into a small wok/pan, add 2 tablespoons oil and turn on the heat to medium flame. Then, add the sundakkai peels, 4 green chillies and fry until they become soft and tender. Once done, turn off the heat and allow it to cool down. Then, transfer the fried peels into the mixer jar. • 3. Into the mixer jar, add 1/4th cup tamarind juice, 1 small jaggery ball, 1 teaspoon salt and grind to make a smooth paste (add a little water, if required). • 4. Into the wok, add 1 tablespoon oil, 1 teaspoon each urad dal, mustard seeds, fry until the seeds start to splutter and turn aromatic. Then, add a sprig of curry leaves, 3 red chilli pieces and continue frying. • 5. Now, add the ground paste and fry on low flame until it turns aromatic.
