Warm in a water bath for a few minutes. Pour this solution in to a beaker containing 20-50ml of water. Here we can observe the sweet smell from the resulting mixture because esters are formed in the reaction, these esters are sweet smelling substances, this reaction is reversible reaction. So this reaction is known as sopanification, because it is used in the preparation of soaps. • Reaction with a base:- • Ethanoic acid reacts with a base such as sodium hydroxide to give a salt and water. • Reaction with carbonates and hydrogen carbonates: • Ethanoic acid reacts with carbonates and hydrogen carbonates to give salt, carbon dioxide and water.
