They must be strong for planting turns, lightweight so your arms don't tire, and flexible enough so they won't break during a fall. • With your poles upside down, grab the pole beneath the basket so that the top of your thumb touches the basket. If your elbow is at a 90-degree angle (approximately), you've found the right size. If the angle of your elbow is less than 90 degrees, you need a shorter pole.
