Supermicro CEO Charles Liang is a close friend of Nvidia’s Jensen Huang. Like Huang, Liang is a tech billionaire, yet what many don’t know is that Liang grew up in a farming family in Chiayi. The word is out that Supermicro wants to expand its operations in Taiwan. A group of Chiayi-based start-up leaders got together to let Liang and local goverments know that they want Supermicro to come to Chiayi. • Holding up a big red banner, this group of start-up company representatives is inviting Charles Liang, the Taiwanese co-founder of AI giant Supermicro, to build the company’s new production site in Liang’s hometown of Chiayi. • The organizer of this event is Lin Chien-hsiang, who runs a machinery company in Chiayi County’s Minxiong Industrial Park. Back in the day Lin was Liang’s classmate in elementary and middle school. Over 50 people from the Associations of Young Entrepreneurs from Chiayi City and Chiayi County are letting the tech billionaire know that they’re seeking his support. • Lin Chien-hsiang • CEO of machinery company • His younger brother told me that if there’s land in Chiayi then I should first buy around 5 hectares. So, what does that mean? It means that their hearts are in the greater Chiayi area, and that they still want to come back to Chiayi to set up a production site. • Of course, finding enough land in such a short amount of time is no easy feat, yet Lin hopes that this meeting can persuade the governments of Chiayi City and Chiayi County to first provide the conditions necessary to get Liang to invest in his hometown. • Lin Chien-hsiang • CEO of machinery company • Land is the biggest investment cost, and, of course, there’s also electricity as well as water. We’re not able to take care of any of these aspects. All we can do is call on the local and central governments to give us even better preferential conditions. • Wu Tsung-han • Chiayi City Association of Young Entrepreneurs • If it’s possible to make this happen, then we truly want Supermicro CEO Charles Liang to come to Chiayi to set up a production site. This will attract all the homegrown talent that left Chiayi to come back and develop their careers here. • Chiayi is known for its agriculture industry, but in recent years the central and local governments have steadily lured companies from a variety of industries to set up shop in Chiayi. Start-up companies in greater Chiayi hope the Chiayi native Charles Liang can “come back home” by bringing his company’s investments to Chiayi. • For more Taiwan news, tune in: • Sun to Fri at 9:30 pm on Channel 152 • Tue to Sat at 1 am on Channel 53 • • #台灣新聞 #TaiwanNews #民視新聞 #FTV新聞 #Taiwan
