It played almost constantly on MTV back in 1984 and was one of Van Halen’s most memorable videos. • The opening synth line conceived and played by Eddie Van Halen was famously known as being played on an Oberheim OB-Xa synthesizer. It was recorded in the middle of the night in Eddie Van Halen’s home studio by himself and engineer Don Landee. • Daryl Hall of Hall Oates stated that Eddie told him that he copied the synth part from their song ‘Kiss On My List’ released in 1980. If you listen to it, you can hear a similar playing style as the 8th note rhythm part played on Jump.
