Date filmed: 12/09/2022 • Video filmed at 09:54 • Route: Atlantic Coast Line • Between Par and Luxulyan Stations • Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barriers crossing with CCTV (MCB-CCTV) • Location: St. Andrew's Road, St. Blazey • Trains featured: • Class 150 (Great Western Railway) - 2:18 • Newquay ➡ Par • A level crossing found near Par within the village of St. Blazey in Cornwall. The road going over it isn't usually very busy, but had a lot of traffic forced onto it due to a road closure on the nearby A3082 main road, meaning that it became quite congested and busy with diverted traffic. This level crossing still has Semaphore Signals in September 2022, and these are surprisingly still seen quite a lot across Cornwall. Control of this level crossing is from nearby St. Blazey Signal Box via CCTV. Railway traffic over this level crossing consists of the two-hourly local stopping service running back and forth along the line, a direct service from London Paddington to Newquay (in the summer only), and the odd freight service to/from Goonbarrow Junction. • This level crossing has quite a unique set-up. In the middle of this level crossing is a bridge over a small stream, and the set-up of protective and warning equipment here is quite unique-ly laid out and installed around it. Very unusually for level crossings in this country, it has both full road width barriers installed on the exit (right-hand side), and these are fairly far apart because of the bridge. As well as four wigwags / road traffic lights, it has three alarms and a total of four LED pedestrian lights. Because of a second bridge over a second stream here, the two wigwags / road traffic lights on that side are a long way forwards of the barrier. To compensate for this, there is an extra supporting mast located where one of the barriers comes to rest as its lowered, which has the additional alarm fitted to it as well as two hood-less pedestrian lights. All fairly uncommon sights at level crossings, but this is an odd place to have one! • A single Class 150 'sprinter' is seen passing by having come from Newquay. Apologies about the slightly ropy start, as a vehicle wanted to turn into an access road just as the level crossing activated. • Thanks for watching!
