Starting out the French defense? Want to know how to play the Tarrasch variation of the French defense? • What are the main ideas of the French Defense and Tarrasch Variation for White? Why do we place our knight on d2 instead of on c3? Learn to play this variation and enjoy playing the French defense with white pieces. • The main conclusions are that White's benefits in the Tarrasch over the Classical variation of the French defense are: • (1) The knight on d2 (comparing with the c3-knight) allows White to reinforce the d4-pawn using their c-pawn without any further effort. • (2) The knight from the d2-square can easily maneouvre to the kingside via f3, while the other knight, from g1, goes to the e2-square, establishing a perfect defensive setup for the two most important White pawns in the center (d4 e5), while also preparing to transform into the attack via f4 and potentially on h5-square. • The main drawback of having the knight on the d2-square is that it prevents the c1-bishop and the queen from being active, and the knight itself is less active (not controlling the center) in comparison with being developed on the more natural c3-square. • Video is divided into the following chapters: • 0:00 Tarrasch French vs Classical variation • 2:17 Best setup for the White's Knights • 4:49 Black is not careful • 6:17 Pause the video and guess the winning move • 7:31 Final word on Tarrash with 3...Nf6 • 8:38 An intro to the c7-c5 Tarrash • Level: Beginner/Intermediate. • #TarraschFrench #FrenchTarrasch • LET'S KEEP IN TOUCH • FB: / bad.bishop.2023 • IG: / very_bad_bishop
