As the festive season kicks off, September has proven to be a Good month for car sales in India. Let’s break down the performances of India’s top carmakers • First up, Maruti Suzuki, the market leader. The automaker reported sales of around 1.5 lakh vehicles in September, marking a healthy growth of about 16% year-on-year. The launch of the new Brezza and updates to existing models have driven this growth. Maruti continues to capture the majority of the market share, with its compact and mid-size SUVs gaining particular traction. • Tata Motors also had a noteworthy month, with sales reaching approximately 42,000 units, representing an impressive increase of 22% year-on-year. Their electric vehicle segment is a significant contributor, with the Nexon EV seeing a remarkable uptick in demand. Tata’s commitment to sustainable mobility is resonating well with consumers, helping to position the brand strongly in a competitive market. • Moving on to Hyundai, the South Korean automaker recorded sales of about 50,000 units, reflecting a modest growth of 8% from September 2022. The newly launched Hyundai Exter has been well-received, contributing to the brand’s steady performance. However, Hyundai faces stiff competition, especially in the compact SUV segment, where it must contend with offerings from both Maruti and Tata. • Mahindra Mahindra. Witnessed a robust surge in demand for its SUVs, particularly the Mahindra Thar and XUV700. In September,Mahindra reported a sales increase of approximately 23% compared to the same month last year, moving over 35,000 units. This growth can be attributed to strong consumer interest in their rugged utility vehicles and the introduction of updated models. • Finally, Toyota has shown resilience in the market. With sales nearing 20,000 units, Toyota’s growth has been more subdued at around 5% year-on-year. The company’s focus remains on hybrid vehicles, particularly with models like the Camry and the recently launched Urban Cruiser Hyryder. As consumers become more environmentally conscious, Toyota's hybrid technology could see increased interest moving forward. • September's auto sales demonstrate a vibrant recovery, with several manufacturers reporting positive growth amidst evolving consumer preferences. The combination of the festive season, the introduction of new models, and a shift towards more sustainable options are driving this momentum. • The upcoming Diwali season is expected to further boost sales as companies ramp up production to meet rising demand. • .............................................................................................. • News9 is India's first fully integrated English news brand across all digital platforms.
