This a beginner's tutorial, that will help you with three important subjects. The first and biggest subject is aquarium CO2. Carbon-dioxide is much needed by aquarium plants for photosynthesis, all high-tech planted tanks have some form of CO2 injection, using a CO2 diffuser of CO2 reactor. The second topic is the aquarium plant fertilizing. We also talk about the water parameters, water hardness as well as water temperature in a planted tank. Lights are on from 9.30, so 2.5 hours after the CO2 comes on. CO2 on for 10 hours, it switches off together with the lights, at 5PM. • All aquariums have around 30 ppm CO2 levels, with the drop checkers lime green. • We use CO2 diffusers (ADA and Aquario) for the small tanks and external CO2 reactors (Aqua Medic, AquaCare and DIY) for the big tanks. • We have 2kg and 5 kg (and one 20kg) bottles below the tanks, and monitor CO2 levels on a daily basis. • GREEN AQUA WATER PARAMETERS • We use Reverse Osmosis (RO) water, as the Hungarian tap water is really hard. (Around GH 24). Remineralize it with Green Aqua Mineral GH Plus to raise the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids value) to 120 (corresponds to GH 3). Our real values are between TDS 110-160 at times. • Other water parameters: pH 6.5-6.8, KH 1 • Water temperature is between 22-24, in the summer it goes to a maximum of 26 occasionally (we're not happy about that). • GREEN AQUA FERTILIZING • Green Aqua Macro and Micro, Seachem Excel or ADA Green Brighty Mineral and ADA Brighty K and Seachem Excel dosing regime in all tanks.
