Masdar Institute • Abu Dhabi, UAE 2007 – 2015 • The Masdar Institute is the first phase of the Masdar City masterplan. The Institute embodies the principles of Masdar to create a sustainable city and is the first building of its kind to be powered entirely by renewable solar energy. The residences and laboratories are oriented to shade the adjacent buildings and the pedestrian streets. Over 5,000 square metres of roof solar pannels provide power and further protection from the sun.
