A patient (who happens to be an RN) travels to see Dr. Nick from California. She's been hurting for over 4 years and no one's given her any answers... Her problems: • -TMJ joint pain • -tinnitus/hearing issues • -cheek spasm and pain • -trouble chewing • -super sensitive teeth to cold • She's seen her MD, several ENT's, dentists, TMJ specialists; the whole gambit. Dr. Nick runs her through the Neural Occlusion Screening protocols using MRI/CBCT/T-Scan/EMG, JVA, history and a thorough clinical exam, and then finds that she likely has cervical and sympathetic inputs contributing (at least partly) to her TMD issues. NOS imaging proves that she has deranged joints, Piper 4a's bilaterally. Neck anesthetic blocks of the greater auricular nerve (GAN) are initiated to help diagnose and see what percentage of her pains dissipate, to ascertain if her upper C-spine is contributing to her TMD issues. Many, many times, a TMD patient has issues in the neck that mimic joint, bite and other orofacial pains. A thorough and experienced doc must always perform his or her due diligence and strive to DIAGNOSE prior to initiating treatment. After the GAN diagnostic neck blocks on both sides of her neck using local anesthetic, there is partial relief, temporarily, meaning that a percentage of her issues do come from her upper neck (her issues are not all trigeminal nerve-related). Watch for Part 2 where Dr. Nick has her back to reassess the following day, and initiates computer-guided bite adjustments to see what changes she experiences now that we know that her joints are relatively stable and adapted per the NOS protocols. • To learn more: • DrNickDDS.com • CNOtmj.com • Dr. Nick is the founder of the Center for Neural Occlusion (the CNO), an organization dedicated to disseminating novel diagnostic and treatment protocols to assist dentists to improve their treatment outcomes. • To learn more about CNO dental continuing education online live courses in general: https://cnotmj.com/ • #TMJ #TMD #dentist #dental #cno #centerforneuralocclusion #coldsensitivity #sensitiveteeth #dentalCE #dentalcontinuingeducation #occlusion #centerforneuralocclusion #tscan #dentistry
