Platy giving birth amazingly up close footage! This is Rosie she is a Platy and this is her first lot of babies. Platy are livebearers, which means unlike most fish they dont lay eggs, they give birth to live young called fry. To see some of the babies just after they where born follow the link: • Newborn Fry Only Minutes Old- Baby Pl... • HELP ME NAME THEM LEAVE NAME SUGGESTIONS IN COMMENT BOX • She is in a breeding trap to prevent her from eating her young as Platys have no maternal instincts... however does not always work and Rosie ended up eating a far few of hers. • WARNING: some of my fish where clever enough to work out that when the babies tale fins got near the gaps of the breeding trap, they could nibble on them and even pull them through. If possible try and put the babies into there own tank to prevent this from happening.
