Dephemerember (#dephemerember) is an event hosted by two YouTube journal artists—Luise Heinzl of Germany and Barbara (49 Dragonflies) of Austria. The event centers around a journal swap with a partner, followed by a month-long series of prompts and videos designed to inspire participants to create ephemera to fill their new journals. Everything takes place within a lively, connected community on social media. • For this swap, my partner was someone I had never met before, all the way across the United States. We exchanged brief descriptions of the themes we each enjoy, but other than that, we created our journals without knowing what to expect. The process was a delightful mix of curiosity, excitement, and a little bit of anxious anticipation. • My partner mentioned “typewriters” and “vintage” as themes she liked, so I decided to embrace those ideas and see where they took me.
