The Madawaska River in Ontario's Highlands is without a doubt one of the best rivers in the world to learn how to whitewater canoe or kayak. It boasts warm water, friendly rapids, and guaranteed flows throughout the summer. It's also home to the world's first whitewater canoe and kayak school – the Madawaska Kanu Center – which was started in 1969. Not surprisingly, nobody knows the Madawaska River better than Madawaska Kanu Center owner Claudia van Wijk.
