Hola can be combined with many greetings like the ones covered in this video. For example,  “Hola, buenos días,” you can also say “Hola, buenas tardes.” • 0:48 - Buenos Días — Good morning • This literally translates to “good days,” but it translates to the common “good morning.” “Buenos días” is usually used until around noon. Note: This is different from the common goodbye “Buen día” in this case you’re probably leaving and wishing someone a good day. You can say “Gracias, buen día” if you’re leaving a restaurant for instance. • 0:58 Buenas Tardes — Good afternoon • This is a simple greeting in Spanish for when you want to say “good afternoon,” this phrase is used from one o’clock or later in the day. • In most countries, you can say this phrase until around 5 or 6pm (when the sun is going down). • 1:04 - Buenas Noches — Good evening • If you’re greeting someone, you can say “Hola, buenas noches”. If you’re saying goodbye (leaving), you can say “Buenas noches” and you walk away smiling as you’re wishing someone a good night. • 1:32 - ¿Cómo está? — How are you? (Formal) • If you don’t know this person (or they’re older and you want to show respect) you can say ¿Cómo está? If you don’t know the person you’re speaking to or you’re doing business, it is better to go with this one. • 1:34 - ¿Cómo estás? — How are you? (Informal) • This is used when you’re speaking with a younger person or you’re really close with him/her. • If you start the conversation with the formal greeting and you’ve built a relationship with this person, chances are he or she will tell you “Me puedes hablar de tú”, meaning, you can use the informal “you” with no problems. This usually means trust has been established. • ¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo le va?  — How’s it going? • This one is usually a bit more formal, but it can be used in any setting. If you’re walking into a shop, for instance, you can expect to say “Qué tal” and man or lady may reply with a quick “Hola” or simply a smile. This is a somewhat rhetorical question in most instances so don’t feel bad if you don’t get a response. Adiós - Goodbye! This one is a more casual goodbye. You can use it over the phone or in-person with no problems. If you want to sound a bit more relaxed, you can also use “Chao”, derived from the Italian goodbye “Ciao”. This one is used in a few countries in Latin America (Argentina, Bolivia, Perú, Colombia and Uruguay) as well as the South of Spain, exceptions apply, of course. • 3:16 - How to Say Goodbye in Spanish • Hasta pronto - See you soon • This goodbye is usually formal. You can say it as you wave goodbye! • Hasta Luego - See you later • This goodbye is usually formal. You can say it as you wave goodbye. In most instances, you can say “hasta luego” and expect an “Adiós” from the other person. This varies by country but it is pretty neutral. • 3:52 - Practice Time! • 4:33 - Final Thoughts • • FOR ONE ON ONE HELP WITH YOUR SPANISH, PLEASE VISIT SPANISH55.COM - WE'LL BE HAPPY TO OFFER YOU A FREE HOUR VIA SKYPE TO SHOW YOU HOW WE HELP OUR STUDENTS SPEAK SPANISH CONFIDENTLY AND FLUENTLY. • • -------------------------------------------- • How to pick the perfect language tutor? •    • Online Spanish Tutors - ULTIMATE Guid...   • DO'S AND DON'TS when speaking Spanish as a beginner: •    • DO'S and DON'TS when speaking Spanish...   • Help us get to 100 subscribers!
