The mighty GTO, by its very nature, was a car that everyone wanted to be seen in; and what better way could Mr. Rugel make a lasting visual statement than checking the options sheet for GMs special order 2XX Tiger Gold paint. Both attention-grabbing and sophisticated, this Pontiac's flashy gold hue perfectly complements its unbeatable combination of performance and style. Never disassembled or fully restored, that mostly original paint has been immaculately maintained over 100% original rust-free body panels. It's still rich, vibrant and glows every bit as good as when it left the showroom floor almost 46 years ago. • Pop the smooth, gold hood and a strategically placed courtesy lamp illuminates the cars pristine, numbers matching 389 V8. When this car was sold to its second owner, Bill Ragsdale, he commissioned Scott Tiemann of Supercar Specialties to pull the body and detail both the frame and engine which resulted in the factory fresh look you see here. Top dead center on the motor is three Rochester 2-barrel carburetors which feature individual chrome air cleaners, correct metal tags and a traditional yellow spring. Below those carburetors, the hot 389 is resplendent in Pontiac Turquoise with proper chrome valve covers and correct original exhaust manifolds. In front of the motor, a heavy-duty cooling system circulates fluid through correct reproduction hoses and tower clamps, and at the back of the motor, a correct points distributor sends fire through reproduction Packard Suppression wires. • As the engine's WS stamp indicates, you'll find a capable, wide ratio M20 Muncie 4-speed transmission mounted just below all original floor pans. That original transmission feeds an optional 10 bolt Saf-T-Track rear end with tall, asphalt burning 3.55 gears. Take a look at the pictures, and once again Bill Ragsdale and Scott Tiemanns vision shines brilliantly as the cars fresh satin black frame looks fantastic against its straight flat black floor pans. Below that frame, an original double A-arm front and four link rear suspension rides on fresh bushings and new ball joints to ensure a composed ride; and new Delco spiral shocks perfectly replicate the cars correct optional Ride Handling Package. At the center of the car, exhaust flows through a new mandrel bent aluminized true dual system and factory replacement mufflers to give the potent 389 its legendary growl. And at the corners of the car, rebuilt drum brakes sit behind impossible to find 14 inch Hurst cast aluminum wheels which wear authentic G70x14 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sport redline tires. • Inside the car, a positively stunning original code 213-B vinyl interior looks much younger than its age would suggest and shows virtually no sign of wear at all. The front bucket and rear bench seats feature a stylish diagonal pattern which is unique to the GTO and complement the 'boxed' and stainless trimmed door panels exceptionally well. Between the seats, a correct Delco Reverb AM radio hangs above an optional center console which holds a chrome Hurst shifter and white cue ball knob amid slick, finned chrome trim that still looks modern even today. In front of the seats, an optional padded dash wraps stylish wood trim around an optional Rally gauge cluster which includes a crisp tachometer and cool checkered flag speedometer. Below the seats, like-new black carpet is protected by four Silver trimmed rubber floor mats, and above the seats, a fresh headliner is stretched tight from door to door. In front of the driver, a correct three spoke sport wheel features a pristine wood rim and Pontiac Motor Division horn button. • Some of the best classic cars are the ones that can tell the best stories; and in terms of history and significance to collectors, this all original, one-of-a-kind GTO is impossible to beat!
