Welding tool to connect and fuse filament from separate rolls. There are multiple designs of filament welding or fusing tool jigs on the common model sites (Thingiverse, Printables, Thangs). I found this one, linked below, and it works for my current needs. Using the PTFE tubing keeps the fused filament at the 1.75mm diameter. The repurposed bed springs keep the PTFE tubes shape and helps with consistent heating. I find this model works best with two springs and pushing them out to the sides as shown in the video with a small section of PTFE exposed in the center to heat the filament end junctions. It does take some manipulation back-forth with the ends sliding in the tube (before heating) to get a feel for the ends meeting up in the center point. I do let everything cool down ~3-5min and while it is still gently warm work on sliding side-to-side to then pull the fused section out of the tube. I have both a) pulled on the filament too early and disconnected the weld and b) not heated long enough to get a weld in the fist place. Take notes and find what works with your setup. • You don't have to be 3D printing very long to learn it's common to have partial rolls of filament. For 3D printers like the Ender5-Plus with a single spool feed it can be tedious to manually time and load partial amounts of filament, even when using a filament runout sensor (which I don't use on my E5-Plus system anyway). This is a benefit I see with the multi-spool systems like the AMS combo with the X1-Carbon that help make 'quality of life' improvements for 3D printing hobbyists (partial rolls are easy to load in any AMS slot and use up the remaining filament).
