I never thought I would say this but I just purchased my first CNC router. The reason I never thought I would say that is mostly because for a long time I was opposed to using a CNC in a woodshop simply because I subscribed to the school of thought that using a CNC machine wasn't really woodworking at heart and that type of tool just didn't belong in my shop. Boy was I wrong! Once I got past that sort of ignorant mindset and started doing more research and seeing the amount of time it would save me and my workflow and the potential of what they're actually capable of doing, I became more open to the thought of getting one. Since doing so, I started quickly seeing the many advantages that owning an X-Carve has truly given me. The one I bought was from Inventables and it was their 1000mm XCarve model. It's considered to be more of an entry-level machine without a lot of bells and whistles and is thought of being more of a tool for hobbyists instead of a production shop but I was ok with that fact and it really has been the perfect addition for me and my shop. The best part about it is that there was a very small if any learning curve and being that I had no familiarity with how to even use a CNC router, how designing models worked and using CAD software in general, and all the lingo that came along with it, there really hasn't been an issue with that whatsoever and I was able to pick things up very fast and was up and carving in the first few minutes of turning the thing on. My only issue at first was with the amount of for assembly time there was but in hindsight have found that building the entire machine piece by piece gives you the chance to be intimately familiar with all of its components and if there is ever an issue, you know pretty quickly what it is and how to fix it. So with all that said, Here's a quick video of the assembly and my initial first thoughts and impressions.
